J-P Passi F.S.C. has won the main prize, Golden Camera 300, at the International Cinematographers’ Film Festival Manaki Brothers for his work on Compartment No. 6 (Hytti nro 6). Congratulations J-P! This was the second time J-P was awarded at the Manaki Brothers festival. Last time he won the main prize for his work on the film Happiest day in the life of Olli Mäki in 2016. Both films are directed by Juho Kuosmanen.
The Jury President: ”It is nice to see that cinematographers admit that the work is part of a team effort and that the cinematographer is like a conductor who heads the orchestra and keeps the rhythm. Being a jury member is also a very intimate thing, because we all assess different levels and that makes the decision difficult, but in this case the decision was easy for all five jury members. For the delicate and sensitive way in which the camera takes the audience on the crazy journey of the heroine from Moscow to the frozen north, the jury awards the Golden Camera 300 to cinematographer Jani-Petteri Passi for Compartment Number 6.”
